What you can't get at the SQDC
Last updated: July 2026
If you live in Quebec, the SQDC is your only legal option, and it does a fine job at what it does. But Quebec keeps its cannabis selection deliberately narrow. Ontario works differently: cannabis is sold through private, licensed stores like ours, which means a much wider range of products, formats, and brands on the shelf.
We're a family-run shop in Vankleek Hill, just over the Ontario border and right off Highway 417. Here's a clear, honest look at what you'll find on this side that you won't find at the SQDC. No hype, just the differences that actually matter.
The short version
Quebec runs cannabis through one government retailer and limits which product types can be sold. Ontario's private stores carry far more variety. The biggest gaps you'll notice:
- Infused pre-rolls (flower with concentrate added) are a core category here and barely exist at the SQDC.
- Concentrates like live rosin, resin, diamonds, badder, and a wide hash range.
- Edibles the SQDC doesn't carry at all (gummies, chocolates, soft chews), now including 100 mg and 200 mg multipacks.
- A much broader vape selection across brands, formats, and strains.
- Higher-potency flower and a deeper range of strains and brands.
Category by category
Infused pre-rolls
Pre-rolls with added concentrate (rosin, resin, diamonds, or distillate) for a stronger, more flavourful experience. This is one of the fastest-growing categories in Ontario and one of the hardest to find in Quebec. If you've never tried one, our team is happy to walk you through it.
Shop infused pre-rolls→Concentrates
Rosin, live resin, diamonds, badder, shatter, hash, and more. Ontario's private market carries a deep concentrate range that goes well beyond what the SQDC stocks. Whether you dab or just want something potent, there's a lot more to choose from here.
Shop concentrates→Hash
Quebec and Montreal have a deep hash tradition, and this is where the 30% cap really stings. The SQDC can only sell hash under 30% THC, so it's limited to lower-potency pressed hash and kief. Temple balls (often 50-70%), quality bubble hash (40-70%), and hash rosin (70-85%) all sit above the line, so you won't find them there. We carry the full spectrum: traditional pressed styles, bubble hash, dry sift, temple balls, and hash rosin.
More in our hash guide→Edibles, the format and the multipacks
Two things to know. First, Quebec restricts edible formats like gummies and candies, so the SQDC doesn't carry them, while in Ontario they're a core category. Second, as of 2025 Health Canada allows multipacks: each piece is still capped at 10 mg THC, but multiple pieces can now be co-packed into one package, so you'll find 100 mg and 200 mg multipacks here. Same per-piece limit everywhere, far more format and selection on this side of the border.
Shop edibles→Vapes
The SQDC added vape cartridges fairly recently and keeps the range limited. Ontario stores carry a much broader selection: disposables, 510 cartridges, live resin and rosin carts, across a wide set of brands, strains, and formats.
Shop vapes→Flower
Ontario's private market offers a deeper bench of strains, brands, and higher-potency options, plus formats like bulk flower. More selection, more variety, easier to find exactly what you like.

FAQ
Is it legal for a Quebec resident to buy cannabis in Ontario?
Adults who meet Ontario's legal age (19+) can shop at Ontario's licensed retailers. Quebec's own legal age is 21. We sell only to adults 19 and over, with valid ID. For questions about possession and travelling with cannabis, check the current federal and provincial rules, they're the authority, not us.
How is Ontario's selection different from the SQDC's?
Ontario sells cannabis through private licensed stores rather than a single government retailer, which generally means more brands, formats, and product types on the shelf, including categories Quebec restricts.
Do you have staff who speak French?
Yes. We serve customers in English and French, and our whole site is available in both languages.
