Weed Glossary

420 [ fohr twen-tee ]

noun
An international holiday celebrating the magic of cannabis. It originated in the 1970s with a crew of stoner California teenagers. They used “4:20” as a secret code for meeting after school for a smoke session. Over the years, it has evolved into a national holiday, on April 20th, to celebrate and advocate for cannabis.

710 [ sev-uhn ten ]

noun
Riding on the back of 420’s fame comes a second annual stoner holiday, 710. Turned upside down, 710 spells OIL, and thus it’s become a yearly tradition to celebrate cannabis concentrates once a year on July 10th.

Dab [ dab ]

Noun & adjective; dabbing, dabs, dabbed
A relatively new way to consume cannabis is to dab it. It’s popular among a younger demographic (we are looking at you, whippersnappers), as each ‘dab’ is incredibly powerful. Dabs require a dab rig and a cannabis concentrate like shatter, wax, or sugar. Dabbing applies high temperatures from a butane torch to vaporize the concentrate for a potent inhale. Experienced users need only apply.

Dank [ dangk ]

adjective, dank·er, dank·est, dank·tastic
A word used to describe dark, sticky-icky, crystal-coated, and super potent cannabis flower. It’s the good stuff.

Devil’s Lettuce [ dev-uhls let-is ]

noun
A bit of leftover language from the 1930s and popularized during the years of prohibition. But these days, tokers have taken it back. So, here’s to the rise of legal Devil’s lettuce!

Half-Quarter [ haf kwawr-ter ]

noun
In all other corners of the world, this is a measurement of weed known as an eighth (1/8th gram). But, let it be known that in Ontario, a half quarter of weed is 3.5 grams. Don’t get it? Neither do we.

Sauce [ saws ]

noun
When we talk about sauce, we are talking about super-concentrated cannabis extracts with a more liquid-like consistency, thanks to a high terpene content. Also known as Terp Sauce, this product is still high in THC but leans more into flavor than cannabinoid content.

Terps [ turps ]

noun
In direct relation to sauce is the term terps. Terps is shorthand for a terpene-rich experience or product. As in, “That strain has mad-Terps,” or whatever the kids are saying these days. Live Resins, Terp Sauce, and High-Terpene Full-Spectrum Extract (HTFSE) are a few products with big Terps.

Wood or Backwood [ wood | bak-woodz]

noun
A backwoods blunt is a hefty cone-shaped joint rolled with tobacco leaves unraveled from around a cigar. The name comes from the ever-popular corner-store brand of cheap cigars known as Backwoods. Typically a Backwood contains a gram or more of flower.
